How slowly I began to numb over

How slowly I began to numb over –
as how ice freezes over a deep lake:
Not all at once, but it starts at the edges, moving inward
until all was frozen over, and then thicker, deeper
yet even still, beneath the universe of ice,
liquid water, waiting, hoping

Praise feeds in ways that food cannot

Praise feeds in ways that food cannot;
work as you must, but do not neglect to praise

Trusting in God

Trusting in God entails
trusting in the voice of the Infinite
instead of the infinite voices

You are so beautiful

You are so beautiful, my love, says the Lord
and the ways you struggle to love me make me love you more
a miracle – that Infinity can love you more! –
That is what you do to me

Saturated with God

I enter this world empty-handed
and empty-handed I leave it
saturated with God

What is my life for?

What is my life for?
It is not for riches
It is not for power
It is not for prestige
It is not to go to the grave being right;
It is to go to the grave praising

Says the Potter

Authenticity is what I want, says the Lord;
transformation comes when I work with clay
not its image

Non-self

I am not my race.
I am not my income.
I am not my education.
I am not my culture.
I am not my body.
I am not my identity.

Break this death

My body fears me
and I fear my body:
Break this death, O Lord
