Building the foundation of me

So many plans! says the Lord
Build them on the foundation of me
not on the foundation of you

strangles love

Parable of the woman with glass shards

There once was a woman whose beloved vase fell and shattered. She gathered up the broken glass shards and clung to them, and her hands got cut and bled. Many people advised her to put down the shards, and every time upon hearing this, she gripped them even tighter.

The gift of raw materials

My job is to give you the raw materials
but it is up to you to decide what to do with them

I travel the world looking for my love

I travel the world looking for my love;
in airports, on the streets of Venice
I constantly refresh my browser, aching for just a glimpse of your face,
aching for the ways you bend delight into the curvature of my heart
and how nothing fits, nothing at all
nothing is solid, nothing at all
nothing satisfies, nothing at all
Where are you? I cry out,
stumbling over street curbs,
my heart in tatters from the wandering

Strange safety

Helplessness can be safe
being vulnerable can be safe –
it depends on who’s hands you’re in

Parable of the child learning to walk

The kingdom of God is like a child learning to walk:
At first, she grasps at whatever is in reach, and if it is not solid, she falls.
Slowly, she learns what is solid and grasps only those things – except
when she forgets and grabs what is not solid, then again she falls.

The slowness of awareness

How much quicker it would be to run through my life numb!
How much time it takes to be alive!

Trust me more, says the Lord

Deepen into infinity –
do you really think that you’ve arrived?
