Parable of the gem cutter and the people

There once was a gem cutter who spent all her life cutting the most beautiful gem in the world. When she unveiled it, everyone exclaimed that indeed, this was the most beautiful gem anyone had ever seen. Shortly thereafter, however, people started arguing about which facet she cut was the most beautiful. After that, they started arguing about which facet she cut mattered more than the others, and then they even argued that the other facets didn’t matter at all.

The not-really-wilderness

I’m in the wilderness, I say to the Lord
Not really, the Lord says to me
How is this not so, I ask. There is no path, no one else, no markers, no map
You are walking upon my heart, the Lord says to me,
which is both wild
and home

Maplessness

My heart is wild, says the Lord, so fear not the wilderness
nor the pathless path
nor maplessness

Wisdom of the trees

Patience
have patience
as trees know the liminal between the winter and the spring:
Still naked, buds not yet revealed –
a long way from there
yet a long way to go

When in a place of overwhelm

I bring you back to remembrance:

I am without, surrounding you
I am within, emanating from you
I am penetrating, saturating you

Feel this

Return
I bring you back

Eternal healing

Why be surprised by my surprises, says the Lord;
my healing sinks into all:
from the earthquake chasms
to the unseen cracks

To protect yourself from overwhelm

You always were a sensitive soul, says the Lord,
and you have deepened the sensitive path,
so you must deepen your protection
to protect yourself from overwhelm

What protects you?
Find it
strengthen it
go deeper

Not all the eggs hatched: Duck Spirituality

I
Not all the eggs hatched.
There were two left in the nest.
Eggshell fragments were cracked open everywhere on the ground
except for the two.
All the ducks were gone and these two eggs, cold –
so much love and effort and no hatching!
Not everything passes ideally.
No matter. Mama took the ducklings to the pond
as one phase turns to another.
Keep going.

II
Something came in the night and broke open the first egg
revealing the yolky center;
The unhatched eggs still find their way back to the circle
as something is fed: Loss is not loss

Prayer of recognition

Heal me, O Lord
Heal my fear of myself
Save me, O Lord
Save me from myself
