Parable of the gem cutter and the people

There once was a gem cutter who spent all her life cutting the most beautiful gem in the world. When she unveiled it, everyone exclaimed that indeed, this was the most beautiful gem anyone had ever seen. Shortly thereafter, however, people started arguing about which facet she cut was the most beautiful. After that, they started arguing about which facet she cut mattered more than the others, and then they even argued that the other facets didn’t matter at all.
