For those who long for balance

Balance is often not simply given
Balance is the work of work
If you wait for balance to beam down from above,
you could be waiting for a long time;
If you work for balance, sacrifice for it,
you will find it sooner

A Meditation for Focus

Pull up the distractions like weeds
to find the flower of your focus

Pull weeds, find focus
weeds grow, pull again

Stay alert: Safety and danger are impermanent

Stay alert: Safety can change to danger
and danger can change to safety;
the blue sky turns black
the black sky turns blue;
the place of danger is now a place of refuge
which can change back to a place of danger again.

Ducks know this. The duck’s nest on land is abandoned
as soon the eggs are hatched, as they head to water;
safety is always in flux
danger is always in flux
It is the way of things.
Stay alert

Be not afraid of brokenness

Be not afraid of brokenness
as a duckling emerges from the shell knows:
Brokenness means life
Brokenness means growth
Brokenness means hope
Brokenness means beginnings

What the birds know

The rain slows, then stops
birds start singing
world wet, needs music

Clouds thick, then thin
then finally break. No matter:
Birds do not need sun to sing

Intimate longing

The leaves rustle against each other like gentle rain
as the trees know what we do not:
earth and sky long for each other, intimately

Exposure

The longer the exposure
the deeper in it goes
both life-giving and death-giving
stay alert

Spirituality of the spiral

When life sends you around again
look for the deeper;
do not go around in a circle
go in a spiral

Even goodness needs to be adapted to

Even goodness needs to be adapted to,
when you are used to squalor
when the patterns of refuse have set in so deep
that you are simply used to throwing yourself away;
Even goodness needs to be adapted to
take your time
stay gentle

Maple tree lesson

You can look at reality
but there is a reality within the reality –
do you see?

Do you see the deeper reality within the maple tree?
Within everything?
