I asked you to take it up and you did, says the Lord;
now I am asking you something even harder:
I am asking you to put it down

I need to be utterly dependent on you
in order to become utterly dependent on you
in order to accept utter dependence on you

Peace, peace be with you, says the Lord
do not fear the path of humility
do not fear the extinction of self
for the small will give way to the infinite
and the infinite goes on forever
As it is!
As it is!

I
It is startlingly easy to forget you in the good times
and remember you in times of need;
protect my heart from usury
this poison that seeps within and radiates out
II
“I remember you only when I need you,” I say, hanging my head.
“Ah! But you remember me!” God says.
“I can work with that.”

Slam your anger upon me, says the Lord,
rage, rage at me
howl and lash and attack and slash;
empty yourself of toxicity

There is always more to do
– you know this –
so why despair that there is more to do?

Sometimes I see what I am to become:
New flesh, reborn –
Sometimes all is dark, wrapped tight:
The chrysalis tightly closed

I wish to give you my beauty but have it not, O Lord,
so you give me beauty that I may give it back to you
I wish to give you my courage but have it not, O Lord,
so you give me courage that I may give it back to you
I wish to give you my love but have it not, O Lord,
so you give me love that I may give it back to you
I wish to give you emptiness but have it not, O Lord,
so you give me emptiness that I may give it back to you

Friends,
Something else that Spirit is getting me into:
Spiritual direction – what is it? It’s where I walk with you in the ups and downs of your life, helping you to glimpse, receive, and nurture Spirit within you, in your justice work, in your relationships, in the center of your center. So you don’t have to journey alone. This companioning includes those with religion and those independent of it. If you’re interested in learning more about this process, let me know in the comments below.
In addition, this Saturday, Feb. 20, I’m hosting an interspiritual prayer session, free. For those who want to pray together in an inclusive space.
And: You can join me at the conference! It’s free, even better.summit.opendiv.org
Wherever you are, keep asking yourself: Am I as open to Spirit as I can be? How can I open to Spirit even further?
With fondness,
Meisaan
