The deeper the spiritual gift

the more it is disguised

Obedience to love

Obedience to love:
Turmoil slackens, stills –
turmoil is not the master

Vulnerability distinctions

There is the vulnerability of weakness
and the vulnerability of strength

There is involuntary vulnerability
and vulnerability fully chosen

There is the vulnerability that fragments
and the vulnerability that makes whole

There is a vulnerability that withers
and a vulnerability that gives life

Do not companion the chaos

It will get worse, says the Lord:
Walk with me, do not companion the chaos

You’re not done yet

Just when you think you’re done
just when you want to celebrate the path long trod
you notice that the path
now obscured and faint, curves around a bend:
You’re not done yet

Parable of the broken vase

The kingdom of God is like two women who each broke a precious vase. The first woman swept up the shards and threw them away. The second woman wept, then carefully glued the vase back together. It could no longer hold water, so the woman decided it would hold prayers instead and she made it the centerpiece of her house. Everyone who entered rejoiced that their prayers would be held, and the vase was filled to overflowing.

Parable of the lonely woman

Once, God appeared to a woman. “I am the Lord,” God said.

“You aren’t the Lord,” the woman replied. “I would recognize the Lord on sight.”

God appeared to a second woman. “I am the Lord,” God said.

“Not true,” she replied. “I would recognize the Lord on sight.”

God appeared to a third woman. “I am the Lord,” God said.

Now this woman had no friends and was very lonely. “I don’t know if you are the Lord or not,” she said. “But I’m lonely. Will you be my friend?”

“Of course,” God replied, and so they walked together.

Glowing with sun

After three days of rain
the grasses glow with sun
and astonished, we look up

A cry for help in the wilderness

Help me, O Lord,
barricades in every direction;
the path has crumbled behind me
the path has crumbled before me
and to my sides the land burns:
Help me, oh God, I cry

When in hardship

When in hardship,
so often you want to become even harder than the hardship
when the path is asking you to break open
