Middle-of-the-night friends

In the panic of the night
call on them, don’t be shy
let the bonds of steel reveal themselves

without friends

Be vigilant

Be vigilant:
vengeance
can warp
justice

Nomad – and – Homing

You can wander around the world
and bring your internal home with you
but the moment you lose it or leave it
no matter the sights you see
you are homeless

Do not dismiss the importance of place
for the internal home yearns to drop an anchor;
blessed are you whose home has taken form
and shape, street names and landscapes,
the pause at sunrise and that special place you sit

A reminder

Your back-to-back meetings
do not increase your worth;
your sloth does not diminish it

Different endings

It depends on to whom you surrender
if you surrender to your anger or your fear or to the abyss –
or if you surrender to me.
It depends on to whom you surrender.

Dreamweaver

Weave in me the thunder of your dreams
so that long after the lightning flash
the booming still resounds

Loneliness

The drop of rain
can think itself so alone
falling through the sky;
this thought can be so strong
it will never notice
the tempest of a billion drops
surrounding it

Do not be so fast to walk away

Do not be so fast to walk away
from the wisdom of the ancients
You scoff: they are hypocrites
– and they are, you are right –
but so are you,
seeking wisdom by leaving it:
Wisdom is never served on a silver platter
at just the right temperature
ready for consumption;
She is the reward
of the fight fought
always hidden
must always be sought
never looking like what you expect –
You must be relentless
if you did not fight
or suffer
then you did not receive her
that is the beginning of her nature, and
there are no exceptions
I repeat: there are no exceptions

Guard your heart from all that encourages addiction

Guard your heart from all that encourages addiction:
you will know it from the unstoppable hunger
the tantalizing food
the unsatisfying gorging
