Sparks of light in the darkness
darkness deep
flecks of light, rising
In the darkness, the slow-burning fire
then the snapping,
then the light pouring out, tumbling upwards
in an otherworldly lightfall

The sun does not flounce into the sky with one brilliant leap
but slowly crawls up the canvas in its own shifting light
– even the most important thing to the earth comes in increments! –
so, too, with discipline, tenacity, strength

as much as you thought, or the crutches or the safeguards
– but without courage, you’ll never know

inviting further touch

Choose your companions for their wisdom
and sincerity and compassion
but do not look for perfection,
that camouflaged destroyer of love

when you empty self of self
the manger empties so the child can be placed within

Journey to the light;
Let nothing stop you,
not dust nor storms nor darkness nor fear;
You do not have to go alone
That is also part of the gift
