Parable of the devout queen and her advisers

There once was a devout queen who, every day, went out into the village and gave a villager a chest of gold coins. Her advisers were distraught. “Your Highness,” they said, “If you continue to do this, you will give away your kingdom.”

“To whom does the kingdom belong?” She replied.

“To you,” they said, and upon hearing this, she had them immediately executed.

The resting place of tranquil repose

The chaos pushes deep and broad
but I am deeper and broader, says the Lord;
to find the resting place of tranquil repose
go to the deeper
go to the broader

Use your tools but do not worship them

Use your tools but do not worship them
worship God alone

Use religion but do not worship it
worship God alone

The importance of one drop

Compassion is easy when there are no obstacles to compassion
The more obstacles, the harder compassion is, and yet the more necessary –
the desert knows this.
Fertility is easy in a rain forest!
But for the desert to be fertile,
it knows the importance of one drop
and then it knows the importance of hope

The darker it gets

The darker it gets
the louder we must laugh
to ward off the night

Laugh like you’ve already won
because if they haven’t defeated your spirit
you have

Expand your horizons

Expand your horizons, says the Lord,
push beyond the stars and you will find
the beyond-horizons and the beyond-stars;
you will find the expanse

Holey lessons

You are learning to avoid your holes
– not all of them, not yet, but some –
and even avoiding these “some” has increased your walk:
You are walking faster, farther, with less fatigue

Holey smugness

When you encounter a hole you always fall into
Walk around it!
For walking into a hole will always result
in your being stuck in a hole
there is no other result

Do not be smug that you are avoiding your holes
for new holes can always emerge;
stay vigilant, stay humble, keep watch

Portals to God

Portals to God are everywhere:
Some, in a yellow tulip, others in a ritual
But careful: While ritual can open the door
it also can close it

It would be so much easier to run away

It would be so much easier to run away
but love that is committed to easy
is not love
