Who is this love that I love?

To whom is this essence of surrender?
I knock on your door, O Lord
that you may invite me in
that I may see your house
that I may learn more, yes, of who you are

Lines

Sometimes you just can’t wait for your turn to come
but be careful which line you choose
for not every line’s end will give you your heart’s desire

It can come thick as a forest

It can come thick as a forest
or lonely as a bird
but behold, mystery is in all

Seeds

You do not know which are mine
so water them all and watch how they grow:
only I am the healthy shoot

Sometimes my way is open

Sometimes my way is open
like the earth upon which wild horses run;
other times, my way is veiled
only those who delve in darkness can see

Ritual

The candle burns brightly again
and I sit in my prayer chair again;
I used to scorn ritual, but now I see it is a paved pathway
so I can focus on the terrain of your heart

Beauty in the darkness

I put the flowers by my bed
and feel bad about turning off the light –
such a fleeting life, half spent in darkness?
But even in the darkness, beauty has a voice

By the misty lantern’s light

By the misty lantern’s light
my friends swoop in silence,
releasing their catch into my hands;
we work together: even the lantern, even the boat
there is nothing that is apart

Opinion-proof

Does the trumpet care about the music that comes out of it
or simply how it is handled?
Does the flame care about who sees it
or is it simply in love with the wick?
