We do not become wounded alone

We do not become wounded alone
and we do not heal alone

The body is ever-changing

The body is ever-changing:
some of you despair at this
some of you take solace
but learn to learn her ways
for my deepest secrets are within

Standing up for yourself

Standing up for yourself can be vulnerable
especially if everyone else is sitting
but the very act of standing
makes them conscious of their legs

Search engine

I check all devices and gadgets
and log on to all memberships
waiting for something to happen,
something beyond myself, some great calling,
something that will answer this restlessness
but the only thing that happens
is that, though I keep checking
I get the gnawing feeling that
I just missed it
and to dismiss it
I keep checking

The slipping

[the audio link is below, for those of you who would like a listening prayer-meditation]

Sometimes on our climb I lose my footing
and as I slip, I wonder why
I’m on this path, why
there are paths at all, why
it matters if I climb or not, why
the terrifying darkness follows me –
and then you grab me and hold me close to rock
until I find a place to stand, to place my weight
until the rock holds and you hold and yes, hold, hold, hold
until the sky appears again and the ground again below
and the rock is solid and still you hold;
and as you wait with me, the answers return, like flittings from a dream
which solidify and massify until they are more massive than the cliff
face, until they become the glowing path again,
until strength returns to my hands again
until the strength of my will matches my strength’s strength
and only then do we continue:
onward, rugged, blessed steps

Patch of sky

When my little patch of sky is the only thing I see
many times it’s because I’m only looking down

You cannot be sloppy with your thoughts

You cannot be sloppy with your thoughts
you must measure each one out exactly
a teaspoon is not a tablespoon
leveled is not heaping

November rain

November rain
almost snow
but still with freedom to run

November snow
just was rain
wet with transformation

Perspective

Sometimes our perspective
is precisely what
limits us

Forgiveness is not a solid

Forgiveness is not a solid
like a massive granite rock
but a liquid, like water in irrigation ditches
designed to flow
