love can come out of mess

You cannot help if Anger is the first to respond
but if left unchecked, it can refuse access to others who are trying to assist:
Compassion
Wisdom
Strength
and Resilience:
it will easily take over, but without the requisite skills
as you continue to bleed heavily, defenseless

The sun knows its slow descent
but note how it does not just go out:
at its lowest point, it unfurls its majesty,
its moment of greatest open giving

This altar might seem like it doesn’t need sacrifices
– that it doesn’t need anything, really –
but there is something brittle about it, something cold

How tempting it is to forever be the victim!
Forever indignant and wounded, forever raging:
but victims do not journey well –
they tend to circle and circle and circle
