My warriors

wield compassion
in their empty hands

Impermanence

The forest will never die, say the trees
The desert will never relent, says the sand

What you worship

Be careful of the altar you choose.
This is your most fundamental decision.

In gratitude

All the ways you love me!
I give you my most costly gift:
I unlock another door

Sometimes life doesn’t unfold according to plan

Sometimes life doesn’t unfold according to plan
as if it were one big origami crane
slowly unwrapping, wanting to fly away from itself;
in times like these, protect me from self-loathing,
where I could so easily crumple it all up and call myself a failure;
in times like these, help me to see the beauty in the unexpected folds,
in the valley folds and inside-reverse folds,
knowing that the end still has yet to take shape,
knowing that I am touched by tender and delicate hands.

Taking up so much space

Self-pity blunts blessing
desensitizes the spirit
covers over the sun

You can turn around at any time

You can turn around at any time
and wait for us on the shore
but then you will not fall into the glowing sun
or feel your heart lift, impossibly

Out of nothing, the gift appears

Out of nothing, the gift appears:
that is the way of the God of creation

One path of the feminine

allows God to pursue
and then to woo
and then she deliberates
and weighs, and ponders, and tests
and then she decides upon the yes and the yes and the yes and the yes,
opening the gates of her garden;
come, she says: take of me and eat

In our midst

How many people never welcome me in, says the Lord
because they’re too busy praying
