A note from Meisaan: Good news!

Friends,

I have been selected to participate in a Harvard/Fetzer-sponsored think tank on the future of religion and spirituality in America*. For four days and three nights, 100 spiritual and religious leaders, activists, and artists will be gathering to share what we’ve been doing to reach out to those who do not identify with organized religion but who are intentionally on the spiritual path. Wearing a different hat, I run a Chicago Meetup group for people who are Spiritual but Not Religious** – this got on their radar, and they invited me to participate. In a way, I have long felt that I slip through the cracks of organized religion, not unlike how, as a mixed-race woman, I slip through the cracks of race.

I cannot be happier or more honored for this opportunity, and I am grateful that this issue is being supported by such incredible institutions. It will take place in a couple weeks; stay tuned for more details closer to the date.

As someone said, this gathering is like the “Silicon Valley of religion”. I can only imagine the people who will be there.  The ideas. The energy.

Total gratitude.

Here’s an article with more information.

The companion, II

“Please, let me be with you,” I say.
“The path includes suffering,” God says.
“Then let me suffer with you,” I say.
“The path includes loss,” God says.
“Then let me be empty with you,” I say.
“The path includes death,” God says.
“There is no one better to die with than with you,” I say.
God nods. “Come, get your shoes. Let’s go.”

The gentle call and response

Gently you call to me as the night settles in
and the dawn a distant friend;
I switch on the lamp
and under the golden glow write these words,
the gentle responding
