How you need to look

Steep mountain trail curls through the forest
in an unrelenting ribbon of rock and clay;
I go forward, slowly, muscles burning on the climb;
when I remember to look up, I see the also unrelenting beauty
but some times demand that I keep my head down, focusing on the small,
on the step by step by step by step
