You resent the obstacle
You resent the obstacle
but through it
I am showing you the way

Let me be for you a glowing canopy of leaves
Let me be for you
a glowing canopy of leaves

Who knew praise could be so dark
Who knew praise could be so dark
as the swirl of marbled storms
or the gasp of faithful wound
or the one blind finger stretching out to Thee

You look at me with sad eyes.
You look at me with sad eyes.
“I’m not bleeding,” I say.
“You’re not looking,” you say.

In a moment of silence the heart quiets on you
In a moment of silence
the heart quiets on you

My dear one, why do you insist on clinging
My dear one,

You stand at the doorway.
You stand at the doorway.
“You will not like my home,” I say.
“I will love your home,” you say.
“I do not receive visitors,” I say.
“I am not visiting,” you say.
“It is a wreck,” I say.
You do not respond. Instead, you look at me
and something bursts inside
something awful, deep, and lonely
and it is swept away
and out that door
and I hear me say,
“Come in, come in, come in.”
