God, make me fearless for you

God, make me fearless for you:
be my breath
and my strength
and my courage
and my ferocity
and my every atom
so that even if my blood is shed
fearless: my blood is shed

If you want to know yourself

If you want to know yourself, seek the crowd!
and define who you are and who you are not

If you want to know yourself, seek the desert!
and find who you are when you are beyond repair

You cannot acknowledge the mind-body-spirit connection
and not acknowledge the importance of sleep

Depth of God

The people you want to impress might not even be looking!
Fear not being invisible
fear being inauthentic

Burdens: A perspective

From the perspective of the ant, the mountain is eternal
From the perspective of the cosmos, the mountain is less than an atom of an ant

Approaching as close as we allow

Hijabbed woman next to me, reading morning prayer
silent teen across from me, eyes closed
hunched man engrossed by his indefatigable phone:
All the ways we enter our days
all the ways you enter them with us
approaching as close as we allow

The ever-approaching path that spirals to the center

The remembering, the forgetting, the remembering,
the forgetting, the remembering, the forgetting
the remembering, the forgetting,
the remembering
