Maple tree, a homecoming

The maple tree greets me at my window.
Welcome home, she says. You’ve grown.
You have, too, I reply. Look
at you – all these new shoots on every branch, big and small!
She beams with pride
and the light of her beaming falls on upon my face
the both of us radiant in growth
